We’re eager to leap into 2021, but it won’t be that easy. We’ve yet to extricate the current resident of 1600 Penn., and we’re still in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, so energy and optimism are in short supply. As Joe Biden prepares for his ascendency, we need to convert our best civic impulses to action. As I see it, we’ve had Revelations, experienced some Revolutions, and are poised to make Resolutions. Come join me. Let’s resolve to do better.

We and Our Country are at a major inflection point. We’ve had a dramatic government leadership deficit in Washington, and the recent Presidential campaign “debate” was a painful reminder of the deficit at the top. Trump was unmoored from his tweets, White House lawn soundbites, and carefully orchestrated rallies. 90 minutes of unfiltered grievance from this big stage showed the world in full what we’ve all seen hints of from numerous sources. Our challenge of responsible citizenship could not be clearer, and the upcoming election is our time to acquit ourselves from letting down our guard in recent years. The passing of John Lewis reminds us of the best in public service. He literally dedicated his entire life to fighting for the values we know are desirable for us, our children and our communities. But, most of us fall short in our individual roles in WE THE PEOPLE. Because we’re mortal, not as well informed as we should be, and have allowed our expectations to fall short of our Better Angels. We must raise our games and our expectations, in order to be more aspirational for our sakes and that of our children. Join me in my latest Mosey Commentary adventure.
